Lord Cavendish was declared ‘the most intelligent of rich men’ back in the mid 19th century, and such a forward-thinking gentleman would surely approve of the grand design created in this chic Cannes boutique hotel to which he has lent his name just a few minutes from La Croisette. Now newly refurbished, Le Cavendish has been brought alive with the fiery rainbow reds and violets, blues and yellows redolent of Provence.

Bag a wicker chair in the lounge for English-style afternoon tea (choose from 15 blends) or return later for complimentary drinks – they’re on the house to Le Cavendish guests in a happy hour that lasts most of the evening.

Each floor at Le Cavendish is themed in a different colour: chocolate on one, olive and gold on another, lilac and grey on a third. Bedrooms are pure 19th century Provence, with all the extras and electronics today's travellers demand. Super-fresh bathrooms and a sprig of fresh lavender (plus a nibble of chocolate) on the pillow lend added appeal.

The circular, soaring ceilings, king-size beds, marble showers and balconies of the coolly opulent Rotunda rooms are well worth splashing out on. Breakfast is worth getting out of bed for, with home-made jams and pastries and plates of strawberries heaped high. Needless to say, you can choose from dozens of chic eateries for dinner – and friendly, Cannes-do staff will be more than happy to help.

See & Do
Cannes is synonymous with its film festival and all the glamour of the Côte d'Azur. Even if you're not among the big invitees getting the red-carpet-and-limousine treatment, it's fun to watch the action if you're in town. Check out the sandy private beaches of La Croisette and people-watch or window-shop along the famous promenade.
