Akrotiri – Santorini’s version of ancient Pompeii – is an ancient city preserved in volcanic ash just 3km away, and well worth exploring. You can also hire a 4WD, rent a scooter, take a boat trip or sunset cruise across the caldera or go for a tasting at nearby wineries.

Hellenic Seaways and Blue Star Ferries operate regular services from Athens and neighbouring islands. The port is 15 minutes from Astarte Suites and you can pick up taxis and hire cars there.

There are no trains on the island.
