Intimate five-star hideaway just made for two

PRACTICALLY LAPPED by the Adriatic’s waves, La Peschiera is a magnet for hedonists who can’t get enough of the beach life. What’s more, it's blissfully couples-only.

The white single storey property – originally a 17th century fishery – has been artfully converted into an intimate little five-star hideaway where you can almost feel the sand between your toes. Any closer, in fact, and you’d be walking in the waves. Bamboo doors and tented beds draped in flimsiest muslin that feel straight out of the tropics lend bedrooms a distinctly bohemian touch, while natural stone archways and simple white walls accented here and there with original artworks exemplify the hotel’s understated style.

La Peschiera is a place to be as unsociable as you want: private sea-facing terraces with private sunbeds are set up for private dining à deux (no need to dress for dinner, then). Blissful indulgence continues with a fully-fledged spa and a menu of thalassic therapy and beauty treatments.

Fresh-caught seafood

La Peschiera's pool is softly lit by candle flares at dusk, while the restaurant – just feet from the lapping waves – lets you dine with the sea breeze in your hair. Seafood rules here: scoff delicious fresh prawns, fried red mullet, grilled scampi.

Hone your suntan on the private beach, book a full-body massage or dip in and out of the seawater, thalassotherapy and hydromassage pools. Should you crave the bright lights, the bars and nightlife of Monopoli are not far away.

Dining in
La Peschiera, as its name implies, serves first-rate seafood on the water's edge in a setting reminscent of a canopied Greek taverna. Look forward to mouthwatering red tuna in herbs with balsimic sauce and carpaccio tiepido di pesce spada (swordfish carpaccio).
