Puglia has a history far pre-dating even the Greeks. Head off to Alberobello to see the streets of ancient cone-shaped Trulli houses – an extraordinary expanse of beehive roofs. Fascinating hilltop towns to visit include Martina Franca and Ostuni, and you are never far from the coast. There are some good beaches and plenty of places to swim from the rocks, so get into your swimmies and soak up the rays.
