MAISON MK
Chic and cool indulgence in the Marrakech medinaSOHO COMES TO MARRAKECH in this sleek new designer riad at the heart of the Medina. Made for extravagant hideaway weekends,
Maison MK is the epitome of coolest chic – with killer views of the Atlas Mountains yet another treat from its sprawling rooftop terrace.
This is just the place for style-savvy couples. Inside, Maison MK’s fashion photographer owners have created
six coolly decadent bedrooms. Beds are lit from behind to give a floating-on-air look. Dramatic
silk chiffon artworks flutter above huge polished plaster headboards, while rich fabrics add splashes of colour.
There’s an
in-room sound system – pre-loaded with chill-out music – where you can hook up your iPod, and even a mobile phone. Bathrooms are stocked with Parisian Ex Voto toiletries, while
deep roll-top tubs and monsoon-like showers are made for double soaks. And if you get the munchies in the middle of the night (or day) your
minibar is packed with everything from Kshocolat to Veuve Cliquot.
Hit the spot In the medina, five minutes from Djemma El Fna square.
Pillow Talk We loved the extra-lavish Master suite – and so will the mistress.
Be savvy Bathrooms have curtains rather than doors.
Be smitten Designer riad packed with Wow factor.
Spa junkies Spa junkies will definitely get their fix at Maison MK. Treatments at this chic riad-with-spa blend
traditional Moroccan methods and Argan oils with contemporary style, and the owners have created two distinctly different treatment zones – light and dark.
Massage is done in the calming cool of the dark room – all charcoal polished tadelakt plaster – while beauty treatments are done in the light room.
The open patio at the heart of Maison MK curves around a c
ircular splash pool flanked by secluded seating – fetchingly lit by tea lights and strewn with rose petals in the evening. You can also
chill in a decadent sunken lounge, with its exotic scatter cushions and surrealist camel’s head sculpture high on the wall. Need some entertainment? Then head for the
screening room with its mammoth eight-foot screen, DVD library, satellite TV and Xbox360. Huge sun beds await on the roof, and when it gets too hot you can simply retreat under a huge silk canopy or the Arabic corner tent. At night,
sip cocktails here by candle glow, watching fire and water interact in a moving artwork.
Dining is a highlight here, and Maison MK’s
four-course Moroccan tasting menu (complete with Mojito sorbet) will set you up for the night. You can breakfast on the terrace, and you’re just five minutes’ walk from all the action of Djemma El Fna square. Can’t-do-enough staff are the icing on the cake here.
