Cotswolds

THE COTSWOLDS – WHY GO?
Timewarp Cotswold villages are almost too-good-to-be-true clusters of thatched roofs and honey-coloured stone, set in rolling countryside. Towns are elegant, pubs are mellow, while teashops are second to none. It's all tailor-made for romantic getaways, and you'll find a list here of our favourite romantic hotels in the Cotswolds.
MUST SEE, MUST DO
Blenheim Palace, Woodstock
One of Britain’s finest stately homes, Blenheim Palace is the ultimate in British Baroque, with gilded state rooms and vast gardens laid out by Capability Brown complete with lakes.
Sezincote House, Moreton-in-Marsh
A unique Indian-style house with minarets, pavilions and peacock-tail windows amid the Cotswold hills.
Westonbirt Arboretum, Tetbury
You'll find over 3,000 trees in the 600 acre Arboretum. Its flame-coloured leaves are a treat in autumn.
Cheltenham
This city of handsome Georgian terraces, leafy streets and wrought-iron balconies is well worth exploring. Cheltenham comes alive on race days (especially for the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March), while the showpiece Pump Room in Pitville Park is well worth seeing.
Burford
This appealing Cotswold market town has a fine main street peppered with tea houses and antique shops. The town has some even finer watering-holes and a nicely relaxed air.
Chipping Campden
A gorgeously sleepy Cotswold village packed with charm – said by some to be the prrettiest in England.
Bibury
A pretty Cotswold village with a trout stream, tea rooms and pretty riverside houses.
Broadway
A showpiece village that's a great place for afternoon tea
Thornbury
Attractive small town famous for has its castle-hotel where King Henry Vlll and Ann Boleyn once slept.
Oxford
The dreaming spires and colleges of Oxford are on the fringe of the Cotswolds. This is just the place to go punting on the river.
