Eat & Drink
Expect food that's hearty, flavoursome and fresh in the Castle Hotel's cosy, oak-panelled restaurant, serving the best of local produce. Start with a Spanish tapas or seafood slate, followed perhaps by local sausages and mustard mash, beef and ale pie or a 21-day aged Welsh fillet steak. All great value, of course.
After some fine dining? Nearby Ludlow has almost as many Michelin starred restaurants as London.
The Castle Hotel doubles as a traditional Shropshire country pub, and all three bar areas – one cosy and wood panelled, another light and airy – have an open fire or log burner for cooler days. You'll find Dominoes, darts and other pub games for nights in, and a fabulous terraced garden hung with grape vines for summer evenings outside.
Served until 9.30am. Look forward to Eggs Benedict, kippers and poached egg, home made pancakes or a full Shropshire special.
See & Do
There's plenty to see and do in this lovely part of the Welsh border country. There are half a dozen micro breweries in and around the town, so do take a tour of one of The Six Bells or The Three Tuns in Bishops Castle itself. Your hosts can help with discounted tickets, and the annual Beer Festival in July offers fun for all. If your favourite tipple doesn't come in a pint glass, there are a couple of local vineyards to check out, too.
This is great walking and cycling country – much of the surrounding Shropshire hills and Welsh border country is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The medieval towns of Shrewsbury and Ludlow are close by, as is Powis Castle. The Peak District is also within comfortable driving distance.
