The place was amazing, the suite perfect and the staff was very kind. Planning to return in the next few months.
Testimonial left by Alice from Ledbury on 21 October, 2015Our stay at the Lake Country House hotel was fantastic. We both really enjoyed our weekend away. They really took care of us and the food was exceptional.
Testimonial left by Louise from Swansea on 26 October, 2014Would I/we go again? In the blink of an eye! We sampled cuisine by chefs that clearly know how to please. The Maitre d’ /concierge in the restaurant was clearly old school trained with his superb knowledge of what drink goes with what course. The attentiveness of all the staff waiting at tables was exemplary, even a Spanish waiter who had only been in the UK for a week and struggled with his English proved his worth! There was no sense of urgency in getting people through the restaurant, everything was so relaxed with the patron being the most important person every time. Visiting the spa for treatments booked was also met with the same level of professional yet relaxed manner. The spa had towels and robes for all visiting patrons. You literally wanted for nothing! The rural setting is idyllic and perfect for a relaxing break.
Testimonial left by Stephen from Neath on 3 January, 2014We had the most fantastic time at the Lake Country Hotel – everything was perfect from start to finish and I couldn't recommend this hotel more highly for a romantic break. The good news is that my girlfriend accepted my marriage proposal so I will no doubt be using your website again for our anniversaries!
Testimonial left by Rob from Wickford on 20 February, 2013Our review
As reviewed by Sian DaviesPEACE AND TRANQUILLITY are the big draws at this elegant and airy neo-Tudor country house, built in 1900 as a hunting and fishing lodge in a blissfully secluded corner of mid Wales. Inside the Lake Country House Hotel it's all gleaming floorboards and terracotta walls set off by oriental rugs, dark wood antiques, expansive sofas, jugs of fresh flowers and old ticking clocks.
Bedrooms at The Lake are supremely comfortable, while a maitre d’ oversees the well appointed dining room. Outside, it’s a visual feast and the perfect place for dreamy riverside walks or a game of croquet – and there's a full-blown spa here too.
Step on to wide, precision-mown lawns that sweep down to the river Irfon – just one feature of the gorgeous grounds with 50 acres of woodlands and a well-stocked trout lake where herons and kingfishers swoop. The Lake’s traditional afternoon teas – served on a trolley under the chestnut trees in summer or before a crackling fire in winter – are worth driving miles for.
Winning dinners
An award-winning fusion of Welsh and English cuisine with an added pinch of inspiration makes dinner worth waiting for. Try specialities such as stuffed saddle of rabbit with puy lentils, garlic confit and a light sherry vinegar jus. Local attractions include Powys Castle, the book emporia of Hay-on-Wye and the Brecon Beacons. There’s tennis, fishing and golfing in the grounds, not to mention the excellent Kingfisher Spa.
Kaiser Wilhelm and his empress stayed here incognito in the early days. You'll have no trouble going to ground in this green and indulgent enclave.
